Should You Really Be Eating Those Trout?

You just caught a nice trout and now you want to take it home and get er fried and ready to be eaten. Before for doing so it is a good idea to do a little research on the water that you caught the fish in. Its a very sad thing, but allot of America’s top trout waters contain some level of pollution.

Lake Erie and its tributaries are a haven for trout fishing, but that doesnt mean they are safe to eat! Thats just one example of a body of water that hold wonderful, but eating them can be a very disturbing thought. I personally know allot of fisherman that eat trout out of these waters, and I also think they are out of their minds! Who want to chance eating a nice plump rainbow trout that is tainted with mercury or lead, not me!

Most trout fishermen never even think twice about the fact they they may be catching and eating tainted trout.

Thankfully most states offer water warnings in their license handbooks, but I would not bank on that alone. Get more information about those trout waters from your local environmental agency. Make sure those trout waters are clean before you digging into that next catch of trout. You may be happy you did years down the road.

I do fish waters that are polluted to some degree, but I always release and never eat trout or any other fish from these waters. Please do the same.
