When Fishing For Trout Size Does Matter!
Its no secret that size does matter when it comes to trout fishing, though it never fails I always run into someone out on the stream using a bass fishing rig spooled with 10lb test line, wondering why the heck he or she isnt catching trout.
When fishing for trout its very important that you scale down! Most trout fishing calls for light to ultra-light gear, very light line (4 to 6 Lb Test) and small baits. There are exceptions of course, ultra light gear and 4lb test line wont cut it if your fishing big lake trout.
If your fishing live bait using anything over a size 10 bait hook is overkill! As far as spinners and spoons go I personally wouldnt fishing anything over a 1/8th oz, thats the max, in any good trout stream. Can I be certain that a trout wont hit a 1/4 oz spinner? Absolutely not, though I am not going to chance spooking any hungry trout.
I am sure the gear you use will vary from the gear I use for trout fishing, just keep one thing in mind. When trout fishing streams and small rivers size does matter and more times than not the smaller the better!
