Trout Fishing The Four Seasons

I don’t know about anyone else, but during any given month out of the year you will find me trout fishing, no matter what the conditions are, you will find me trout fishing some body of water. If you are as dedicated as I am you might find this little run down of Trout Fishing The Four Seasons enjoyable and useful.

Spring Trout Fishing

Spring is my most favored season for trout fishing, its during the spring that trout will make their big move and begin feeding very actively. When snow packs and ice start to melt, trout begin to migrate to shallower waters and feeding there until summer marches in with its extreme heat and low water conditions.

Trout fishing is relatively easy during the spring months, the trout are active and for the most part easy to catch.

Summer Time Trout Fishing

As summer moves in trout fishing becomes a little more challenging! Our streams and river begin to drop and water temperatures begin to climb. This presents a few challenges for the avid trout angler.

If things get to hot trout start dying and become almost completely inactive, like whats happening with the trout streams in Yellowstone region this summer, as well as a few other areas around the country. This obviously is not a good situation and is an extreme by far, though this happens in less extreme degrees almost every year in almost every part of the country.

Trout also become very skitish in low water conditions, requiring the angler to be as stealthy as possible.

My advice when trout fishing the hot summer months, go deep and go fishing in the morning and late afternoon hours when temperatures are a bit cooler. Also look for windows of opportunity in the weather. If theres going to be a break in the heat take advantage of it.

Trout like all other living creatures do not quite feeding during the hot summer months, but do make changes in their feeding habits which you have to recognize and follow in order to catch trout during the summer months.

Fall Trout Fishing

Like spring I love trout fishing during the fall, the summers heat has finally released its grip and for the first time in months the trout are making a major transition. Water temperatures are starting to fall and trout are becoming active once again.

Many will be foraging for once last good meal before winter rolls in making them easy targets. Like spring fish shallow, many of the big boys will be cruising the shallows looking for easy prey. Using natural colored baits during this period can be crucial!

Trout Fishing Winter

Winter brings with it another trout fishing slow down. The trout are no longer feeding as frantically as they were just a few months ago and now seem to feed only when its absolutely critical. Small, natural colored lures and baits will produce best during the winter months, or have at least worked best for me during this time of the year.

Ive found that small, dead shiners catch more trout during the winter months than any other bait Ive fished.

Whatever season it is, its possible to catch trout, whether it be the dead of winter or during the hot summer months. So no matter what the season grab your gear and get out there to do some trout fishing!
